Top-Quality Humidifiers

Benefits of Humidifier Installation

For whole-home humidification, furnace humidifiers are an excellent choice. A furnace humidifier (also known as a power humidifier) operates in conjunction with your heating and cooling system to maintain optimal humidity levels in your home. By dispersing moisture into the air using attached water tanks, these units effectively reduce dryness, leading to better air quality.

Because they are connected directly to your water source, you don’t need to refill a container or monitor water levels constantly, making them convenient to use. Furthermore, furnace humidifiers are dependable, robust and efficient at maintaining humidity levels in your home, resulting in an improved living experience for you and your loved ones.

Humidifier Installation FAQs

It’s recommended to clean and service your humidifier at least once a year to prevent buildup of bacteria and mold.

First, turn off and unplug the humidifier. Check the tank and water inlet for cracks or damage. If you find any damage, it’s best to replace the parts. If there isn’t any visible damage, it’s possible there may be a clog or connection issue that needs to be fixed by a professional.

If your humidifier is producing too much mist, it could indicate a problem with the control panel, sensors, or float valve. It’s best to hire a professional to diagnose and repair the issue.

Check the manufacturer’s recommendations for your particular humidifier model, but in general it’s recommended to replace the filter every 3-6 months.

Gurgling noises can indicate a clog in the water intake or a problem with the pump. Try cleaning the water intake, and if that doesn’t solve the issue, it’s best to seek professional repair.

What You Need to Know:

The Different Types of Humidifiers

Furnace humidifiers are connected directly to the air ventilation system, filtering heated air from the boiler and distributing it throughout the house via vents. North Wind HVAC technicians are equipped to install three types of furnace humidifiers:

1. Drum Humidifier

Drum humidifiers, also known as reservoir humidifiers, are the simplest option for household humidification. These humidifiers utilize the evaporation process. The air enters a separate bypass tube that contains the humidifier and moisturizes the air before moving through the duct system. A rotating drum with an absorbent pad is used in drum humidifiers. The pad soaks up water while the drum dips into a stagnant water pan. As the air flows through the bypass pipes, the water in the pad evaporates, adding moisture to the air. This process is nearly 100% effective, ensuring that all the water used by the humidifier gets into the air in your home. Compared to other furnace humidifier options, drum humidifiers are less expensive, but they require frequent maintenance to prevent mold growth in the water pan.

2. Steam Humidifier

A steam-based humidifier utilizes electricity to convert water into steam. Homeowners can monitor humidity levels more effectively and enjoy rapid humidification with steam humidifiers. However, the energy usage of steam humidifiers comes at a considerably higher cost. A steam-based humidification system may cost up to $1,600 for installation, whereas non-steam humidifiers are priced between $500 and $1,050. Furthermore, steam humidifiers require an active power output, which can significantly increase expenses. Despite the higher cost, steam humidifiers provide greater moisture levels, ease of management, and do not pose any mold risks.

3. Flow-Through Humidifier

Flow-through humidifiers also rely on the principle of evaporation. Warm air from the heating duct is channeled to the humidifier via a bypass tube in both types of humidifiers. Absorbent pads are used in both types to retain moisture, which then passes into the air flowing through them. However, the source of water distinguishes the two types of humidifiers. Whereas drum humidifiers use a water drum, flow-through humidifiers pass a continuous flow of water across the humidifier plate. This design reduces the risk of bacterial contamination. Flow-through humidifiers are also incredibly low-maintenance and do not pose any mold risks. Filter pads only need to be changed occasionally.

Common Repairs

Humidifier Repairs

Common humidifier repairs include:

Fixing leaks: Leaks may occur due to cracks or broken parts in the humidifier’s tank or other areas.

Repairing or replacing malfunctioning sensors: Malfunctioning sensors can result in incorrect humidity readings, leading to inaccurate output levels.

Replacing damaged or worn-out filters: Filters that are clogged or damaged can cause reduced performance and potentially harmful mold growth, requiring replacement to restore optimal functionality.

Repairing damaged electrical components: Electrical components, such as motors or circuit boards, may also break down over time, requiring repair or replacement by a qualified technician.
